Requirements for aet and det entry and admissions
Candidates must be 19 or older. Candidates who are 19 or 20 years old must have a level 3 certification
(or an equivalent), at least four GCSEs, a GCE A level, and a strong command of spoken and written
English. Overseas degrees regarded as equivalent are also recognized.
For applicants over the age of 21., the minimal prerequisites of a Level 2 certificate in math and
English, as well as appropriate job experience, are also acceptable. If applicants already possess the
required qualifications, they might not be needed to take an entrance test. All applicants must present
proof of their English language competency, which is equal to an overall test score of 5.5 in
IELTS, having no part scoring lower than 5.00.
All applicants must either have English and math GCSEs at a C or higher, or they must possess level 2
English and math credentials. Possessing experience or a degree in the field that you desire to instruct
at a suitable level, as well as having excellent written and spoken English, is desirable. Please be
aware that to successfully earn a Diploma in Education and Training, all DET learners must be able to
finish the required 100 hours of teaching practice in addition to the observation and performance
assessment requirements.
For that reason, to be accepted, all applicants must obtain suitable employment that aligns with their
professional goals (for example, teaching in secondary/FE, etc.). The work can be paid or unpaid, as the
institute may agree to provide suitable candidates with an unpaid job, to teach in HE sectors. To work
in the Teaching and Learning sector, you may need DBS clearance. If you're charged with a criminal
record, you can't get DBS clearance and are therefore unlikely to find a job in educational institutions
today or in the future. All criminal offences must be disclosed to the college in order for us to
appropriately advise you.

Candidates for the AET and DET programs should be aware that in order for responsibilities and
expectations to be agreed upon and clear, the employer has to be ready to execute an agreement called a
Memorandum of Understanding (also known as a MoU) with the institution of study (further information
about this may be found by consulting the admin department).
